Let's Talk Education: Generative AI

Posted in: PVC Education Vlogs

Since taking on my role as PVC Education at Bath, one of the things that has brought me the most joy at work is meeting and connecting with members of our community, to talk about the key issues in education.

'Let's Talk Education' is my approach to capturing and sharing those conversations with our community. In this second video, I sat down with Chris Bonfield, our Director of The Centre for Learning & Teaching, and James Fern, a Senior Lecturer from the Dept for Health, to discuss Generative AI, and what it means for education.

Generative AI is front of mind for many of us at the moment, and I'm proud of the approach we're taking at Bath to navigating such a huge area of uncertainty. You may have seen our media coverage over the summer, the recent news that we will align with the Russell Group principles, or explored our new AI literacy module for students, all of which exemplify our proactivity. But we also need to exercise criticality and reflection, and we're fortunate to have experts in the field, like Chris and James, across research, pedagogy, and practice, whose experiences and guidance will be essential in this.

Collaboration, agility, and a shared commitment to the highest educational standards, strengths I have witnessed so many times in my time at Bath already, will be essential as we continue to evolve our education in this new, and ever-shifting environment.
