Since taking on my role as PVC Education at Bath, one of the things that has brought me the most joy at work, is meeting and connecting with members of our community to talk about the key issues in education.
'Let's Talk Education' is my approach to capturing and sharing those conversations with our community.
We've done something a little different this time, and I've 'passed the mic' to our Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Student Voice, Nathalia Gjersoe, given the importance of student feedback in shaping our education.
In this discussion, Thalia chats to Gail Forey, Associate Dean for Education in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences about why student engagement is critical to maintaining our high quality education, and talks to Amber Snary, SU Education Officer and Izzy King, Student Evaluation and Insight Coordinator, about the importance of student participation.
We're releasing this video at a key point in the year for student feedback through surveys, including our Online Unit Evaluations, National Student Survey, Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey, the new Online Programmes Survey and for the first time, the Disabled Students UK Survey.
As Thalia discusses, we know that student engagement with these surveys can be a challenge for many reasons, but it really is an essential mechanism for the continuous improvement of our education here at Bath, where staff and students alike have a key role to play.
To all staff delivering teaching in the next few weeks, I would ask you to please make it a priority to talk to your students about how their feedback creates change in your area, and allocate some time during taught sessions for these important surveys to be completed.
To our students, as Izzy and Amber highlight in the video, we need to hear about how you experience your education at Bath, in order to shape what it looks like both now, and in the future - please do take the time to provide us with your constructive reflections, these are hugely valued by myself, and all those involved in teaching you.
Thank you Thalia for providing a fresh voice to the vlog and highlighting an important ongoing conversation about how best we partner with our students to enhance the University's education.
